Rick worked his way though art school by labouring on building sites, then spent a year travelling the world in the Norwegian Royal Merchant Navy as an engine-boy (Maskingutt) before returning to lecture at Leeds Art College. Soon tiring of the annual academic repetition, he took off to London to work in a Mayfair design consultancy before being lured into the film industry as a ‘60s style guru.

A well-documented and calamitous collision with the pop music industry followed, mitigated by a job handling PR for numerous showbiz luminaries of the time. Returning to Manchester (and relative sanity) in the early seventies for family reasons, the advertising industry beckoned.

Rick was a founder of the short-lived Eatock Moore Blears ad agency, which caused something of a creative stir in the ‘seventies. Within a few years Rick was Group Creative Director of an agency employing 600 staff in eleven UK cities. The agency was sold to a worldwide group. Thereafter, Rick spent a decade as a serial entrepreneur in advertising consultancy, biotechnology and retail technology before returning to his easel for a two-year creative respite.

Ruth lured him back into business – this time the PR business - with RMS in 1997 where he remains as elder-statesman, creative consultant, feature writer and halogen bulb changer.
