Trekkies from around the globe will have seen illustrations of Captain Kirk by our very own head of design in this month’s edition of the official Star Trek magazine.  

Award-winning Dave was interviewed by the magazine about his inspiration and approach to illustration after producing a series of drawings of Captain Kirk and Spock that will be available as limited edition prints later this year. 

His work has been officially approved by custodians of the Star Trek brand. 

Dave’s skills go way beyond Star Trek but all pieces have one thing in common – they are all characters from the world of popular culture and entertainment ... and always drawn with a retro theme.

He doesn’t just draw his subjects but populates his illustrations with clues and references about their character. He wants the viewer to think and really drill down to the personality of his subjects. He hopes the viewer will be prompted to recollect character idiosyncrasies and events from the subject’s real or fictional life that might have been lost in the mist of time. 

Once he’s finished this Star Trek series, Dave will be turning his attention to some modern day celebs, including Lady GaGa, but still in his inimitable retro style. 

If you fancy a truly unique piece of art, he takes commissions but you might have to wait a few months!
