From the boardroom to the beautiful game
Two of our favourite clients, Laurence Newman and Danny Schweiger (from Dr Newman’s Clinic and Character World respectively) swapped the business world for international football, earning a silver medal in the European Maccabi Games.
Passionate footballers, Laurence and Danny were selected for the Maccabi GB football squad, representing their country in Vienna as part of Team GB’s delegation of 200.
The GB Masters Futsal squad put in an outstanding performance in a closely fought tournament, losing to championship favourite Russia in the final to claim silver.
The European Maccabi Games take place every four years. This event saw more than 2,500 athletes compete from 30 countries across the globe.
Commenting on the event, Laurence Newman said: “It was a real honour to play for my country and to come home from Austria with a silver medal – certainly one for the mantelpiece.”
Added Danny Schweiger: “Football is a great passion of mine and I was asked to carry the GB flag this year – my 11th games – which was a true privilege and a moment I will never forget.”
