Colourful editor comes under the spotlight
If you’ve got an hour to spare Thursday lunchtime (you’ll be fed and watered) you could do far worse than going to the pro.manchester ‘Meet the Editor’ event at Brabners Chaffe Street, King Street.
Our account director Natalie Nuttall will be chairing a session at which the colourful Mark Garner talks about the dramatic highs and lows of his career and takes questions from the floor.
For those of you unfamiliar with the name, Mark is a legend in the world of publishing. He launched www.manchesterconfidential.co.uk in 2004. From a standing start, it now attracts over 500,000 visitors a month and attracts advertising income of over £100,000 per month.
The business model has been so successful that Liverpool, Leeds and London now have their own dedicated sites, too. If you’re one of the rare people who doesn’t know of the site, take a look.
Mark’s other notable accomplishments include founding cook book specialists Toucan Publishing which he sold in 1985.
Early retirement bored him so he headed to France where he dealt in property until a bad deal saw him face bankruptcy.
Proving that you can’t keep a good man down, he lifted himself back and moved him into the world of satellite TV, securing a contract with Rupert Murdoch. An early adopter of the internet, Mark then formed a full service web publishing company called Mintball, which he sold in 2001.
Garner is considered an expert in online publishing and marketing and his company is currently the largest user of Social Media in the North West of England.
A proud Mancunian, this is guaranteed to be a lively presentation and insight into another world.
